114 Cars Owned by Every 10,000 City Dwellers

An investigation conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics among some 150,000 urban Chinese families nationwide shows that114 cars are possessed by every 10,000 urban residents.

The investigation reveals that along with the rising yearly income of urban citizens, their car possession has increased notably. Among urban households each with an annual income of 30,000-50,000 yuan, the share of cars is 609 units among every 10,000 people; those with annual income of 50,000-70,000yuan each, the possession of cars is 994 for every 10,000 citizens; those with annual income of 70,000-100,000yuan, 1266 cars for every 10,000 citizens; those with annual income of over 100,000 yuan, 5917 cars for every 10,000 citizens, accounting for 64 percent of all private cars.

The educational level has a certain influence on the ratio of car possession. The investigation shows that the higher the educational level, the greater is the ratio of car possession. Because viewed from income, the residents' cultural level determines the amount of their income. But the number of cars possessed by those with a technical secondary education is lower than that of those with a senior and junior high school and even a primary school education.

Categorized according to age, those aged between 31-45 are the main age group to possess cars, this is because people in this age bracket have basically stable jobs and families, and so becoming the mainstays of car consumption.

In addition, among all private cars, Santana is the most favorite brand, enjoying a 24 percent share, and Chang'an and Jetta rank second and third respectively, followed by Xiali, with a 10 percent share.
