China Enhances Quarantine of Wood Packages from Japan

The Chinese government announced Friday it will take strict measures against nonapproved Japanese wooden packages of exports to China.

The measures include quarantine treatment at customs, returning the packages, and refusing to inspect the packages in question.

China discovered 127 batches of dangerous insects in Japanese wooden packages from January 1, 2000 to May 15, 2001.

From April 26 to May 30 this year, the southern Shenzhen port destroyed 11 batches of Japanese wooden packages and returned 40 batches of packages to Japan.

In the past month, six quarantine bureaus throughout China have discovered 430 batches of Japanese wooden packages that carried false statements, according to customs sources.
