Beijing to Greet Children's Day with Colorful Activities

Some one million children in Beijing will celebrate their own festival by staging a variety of activities.

Teenagers will be taught to love their motherland and socialism, and be bold in innovation so as to meet the challenges of the new century, said an official from the International Children's Day Celebration Preparation Committee.

Grand gala parties will be held at the Beijing Municipal Children's Palace and Jingshan Park respectively Friday. Leaders of the Chinese Communist Party and government and parents are invited to the occasion.

More than 10,000 young pioneers will gather at Tiananmen Square tomorrow for a theme day celebration. Hundreds of children will draw pictures on a long scroll of cloth expressing their desire to win the bid for the Olympic Games.

All museums, memorial halls and parks will open to children free of charge on June 1. Theaters will also show free films for children and popular science exhibitions and competitions will be held.
