Sales of Frogs Barred in Northwest Chinese City

As many as 20,000 frogs seized on markets have been returned to nature recently in this capital city of north China's Shaanxi Province, officials said Wednesday.

The frogs on sale in local markets were confiscated by law enforcement officials.

According to experts, each frog may eat over 10,000 pests a year, thus is helpful for crops, and frogs also carry various parasites and viruses.

So experts called on the people to protect frogs rather than eat them, though frog eating has been a tradition among some Chinese.
