Overseas Chinese Festival Opens in Cuba

The 4th Overseas Chinese Festival opened Wednesday in Havana to mark the 154 anniversary of Chinese presence in Cuba.

Participants in the festival include representatives of the Chinese communities in the United States, Canada, Guatemala and Peru.

In the opening ceremony, traditional Dragon and Lion Dances as well as martial arts were performed.

During the four-day festival, a meeting of businessmen of Chinese origin and an international conference on the world's China Towns will be held.

In 1847 206 Chinese citizens arrived in Havana by the Spanish frigate Oquendo and later created an important community, mainly in the capital city.
