Tangshan to Build Park for Earthquake Victims

Tangshan City in northern China's Hebei Province is to build a park to commemorate the victims of the 1976 catastrophic earthquake that claimed over 240,000 lives.

The park, occupying 26.6 hectares of land, is to be located at the southern part of the city and will be completed before July 28 next year, the 26th anniversary of the earthquake, which also injured some 400,000 people.

The park will have two walls with a total length of 280 meters and the names of the 240,000 people who died in the earthquake will be engraved on the walls.

A large alter will be built and an ancient-style bronze vessel, seven meters long, 2.8 meters wide and 1.976 meters tall, will be put on the alter for commemorating the quake victims.

An earthquake science hall for spreading quake-related knowledge will also be built in the park.
