China Electrifying Major Railway in Northeast

China is now electrifying a major railway in the northeast between Harbin, the capital of Heilongjiang Province, and Shenyang, the capital of Liaoning Province.

The electrified Harbin-Shenyang Railway is expected to be put into use on August 18, becoming the first electrified railway in northeast China, according to official sources.

The railway, 566 km in length, is being electrified with German technology and equipment, for the first time in China.

It is part of a project to electrify the entire railway linking Harbin with Dalian, a coastal city of Liaoning Province. Shenyang- Dalian Railway has been turned into a electric railway.

In the middle of August, trains will be able to run at an average speed of 140 km per hour over the Harbin-Dalian Railway.
