Taliban: No Foreign Arms Supplies to Opposition

The Afghan ruling Taliban's Foreign Minister Maulvi Wakil Ahmed Mutawakil has asked those countries arming and assisting the anti-Taliban forces to heel the wounds of the Afghans by supplying medicines and other humanitarian assistance instead of arms supplies, according to reports by Radio Kabul.

Mutawakil said as the supply of deadly weapons to the opposition Northern Alliance could not heel the bitterness of war. "We demand the international community and those countries assisting the opponents to help the Afghan nation ... and heel the wounds of the miserable Afghans by sending medicines and other humanitarian aid," he said.

He also claimed the international community's attitude toward the people of Afghanistan "unjust" by saying that the un-Islamic countries were avoiding to accord recognition to Afghanistan.
