China Telecom to Offer Preferential Price to 12 News Websites

May 29 morning saw the Information Office under the State Council sign a supplementary cooperation agreement with China Telecom on behalf of 12 noted Chinese news websites.

China Telecom, in accordant with the agreement, will continue to offer preferential price to people.com.cn, xinhuanet, CNNIC, CRI.com.cn, chinadaily.com.cn, CCTV.com and Cynet and furthermore, it will also cover CNRadio.com, 21DNN, eastday.com, south.com.cn and north.com.cn.

The Information Office entered into a contract with China Telecom last August on providing preferential charge for communications and network use to seven websites of news organizations including people.com.cn and xinhuanet. However, according to the new telecom charge standard in force from January this year, the expense of the Internet access has fallen down by a wide margin. In view of the case the two parties signed this supplementary agreement to carry on the preferential treatment on the basis of the new standard and to enlarge the beneficiaries to 20 governmental news websites.

China Telecom, pursuant to the agreement, will supply 12 websites of the first batch with special broadband line of 438 mb and an annual concession profit of over 40 million yuan.
