Beijing Most Attractive to Venture Capital in China

According to statistics of Asian Venture Capital Journal, of the 47 venture investors running active business in China, 28 have set their headquarters in Beijing and 7 have had offices in Beijing, indicating that Beijing so far has become a city most attractive to venture capital in China.

By the end of 2000, the Venture Capital Association of Beijing (VCAB) had over 200 members. Of these, about 50 are clearly titled "venture", "pioneer" or "sci-tech" investors; another 50 more are venture investors without such titles; and the rest are running venture investment-related institutions like lawyer offices, accountant offices, consultation companies, etc. Insiders claim that institutions involving venture capital might be in a much bigger number.

As a survey made of 23 venture undertakings in Beijing (15 of which are joint ventures) shows that Beijing has made use of an accumulated total of US$0.5bn of venture capital, 90 percent of which are international venture capital, taking up one third of China's total.

It is learned that as being capable of drawing more capital, on top of registered capital, from Hong Kong, the United States, Singapore, and other countries and regions, venture investors have enabled Beijing to become a city with a bulky amount of venture capital absorbed.
