DPRK Reaffirms Self-Resolving National Reunification

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday reaffirmed the stand of self-resolving the issue of national reunification, while rejecting dependence on foreign forces.

National independence is the key to the settlement of the national issue and a basic cornerstone of the principle of national reunification, said a commentary published by the official newspaper Rodong Sinmun.

It is no more than word-juggling to talk about reconciliation, unity and reunification if the country depends on foreign forces without consciousness of national independence, said the newspaper.

Dependence on foreign forces is a treachery to the nation and an anti-national act which makes havoc of the destiny of the nation, the article pointed out.

If the country fails to maintain the principle of national independence, the DPRK cannot realize national reunification at any time or avoid the fate of a ruined nation with foreign domination and subordination, it stressed.

The stand of national independence at present should be shown in conducting a vigorous movement for national independence and reunification in the spirit of the North-South joint declaration signed last June which called for reunifying the country independently by its own efforts, it said.
