Ukrainian Parliament Approves New PM

The Ukrainian Parliament approved Anatoly Kinakh as the country's new prime minister on Tuesday by a simple majority in a confirmation vote.

A total of 239 centrist and independent deputies in the 450- seat parliament unanimously voted for Kinakh's candidacy while the right and the left factions cast blackballs or refused to take part in the ballot.

Kinakh, 46, president of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs, was chosen by President Leonid Kuchma as his sixth prime minister last week.

Former Prime Minister Victor Yushchenko and his government were ousted by the parliament in a no-confidence vote last month.
