China Expected to Become World's Largest Market for UM SystemsTornado Development, a world leader in Unified Messaging (UM) Systems, on Tuesday predicted that China would become world's largest market for Unified Messaging systems.Tornado also expected the potential Chinese market for UM technology to be several million mailboxes within the next five years, and that the technology would enable China to leapfrog to the latest systems, ahead of many western countries. "The prime driver behind the rapid uptake of UM in China will be the telecoms companies, the main suppliers of Internet access and E-mail services on the mainland," said Stanley Chao, managing director of Tornado Asia Pacific. "Faced with a rapidly growing E-mail subscriber base, many of these telcoms are struggling to scale their E-mail systems to cope with demand and are being forced to look at next generation systems based on UM technology," he said. Chao said that Tornado has been in discussion with a number of large telecoms companies and believes that many are on the brink of a wholesale replacement of their systems. "Once these deals are signed, China will be the first country to offer UM on a nationwide basis," Chao said. Unified Messaging allows individuals to manage and access all their phone, fax, E-mail and short messages from a single mailbox. Once adopted, the technology is said to be able to add millions of U.S. dollars in revenues to telecommunications companies, Internet service providers and mobile phone companies. |
