Macao People to Elect 2nd Legislative Assembly

A total of 160,000 Macao residents have been registered to become the voters for the 2nd Legislative Assembly, according to preliminary statistics.

Lidia da Luz, director of the Public Administration and Civil Services Bureau, announced Monday that the registration work, which started on January 17, has come to the end.

Those who will be involved in the voting represent two-thirds of the eligible voting population in the special administrative region (SAR), the official said.

The voting event for the assembly will be held on September 23. In line with the Basic Law, the second Legislative Assembly of the Macao SAR shall be composed of 27 members, including ten from direct election, ten from indirect election and seven appointed by the chief executive of the SAR.
