Reception Marks 50th Anniversary of Sino-Pakistani Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan held a reception Tuesday to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Pakistani relations.

Tang said that the Chinese and Pakistani governments and people have trust and supported each other and maintained sound cooperation since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 50 years ago.

Sino-Pakistani relations are a good example of friendly co- existence between countries with different social systems, he added.

Tang noted that a just-concluded Pakistan tour by Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji achieved great success, and the leaders of the two countries agreed to further the Sino-Pakistani all-round and cooperative partnership.

He pointed out that the Chinese government and people will work with their Pakistani counterparts to achieve the goal of promoting existing friendly relations, and will write a new chapter in the good cooperation between China and Pakistan.

Riaz Hussain Khokhar, Pakistani ambassador to China, said that the Pakistan-China friendship has been built on the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence, which is widely acknowledged by the whole world.

As the two sides observe the charter of the United Nations, international law and just principles, the relations between Pakistan and China have maintained sustainable development, and undergone tests of changes in the international political arena, he added.

Riaz noted that Pakistan-China friendship conforms to the interests of the people of the two countries, and is conducive to promoting peace, stability and development of Asia and the world.
