Sihanouk Highly Appreciates Contributions of Monks to Peace in Cambodia

Cambodia's King Norodom Sihanouk Tuesday highly appreciated the great contributions made by the religious circles to peace in the country.

Sihanouk made the remark at the Tenth National Congress of Cambodia's Monks.

He said that under the leadership of the two kings of monks, all monks around the country have persistently promoted the development of religious cause, done their best to maintain the Cambodian national culture and tradition, thus educating new generations to become good citizens.

As of the end of the year 2000, there have 3,731 temples in the country with 50,873 monks, and 401 Buddhist schools, of them 398 are primary Buddhist schools, 12 are secondary Buddhist schools, only one is a university for Buddhism.
