DPRK Urges US to Withdraw Troops from South Korea

The Democratic People's Republic of Korean (DPRK) on Monday urged the United States to pull its troops out of South Korea to facilitate the process of disarmament on the Korean Peninsula.

There is no ground for the US troops to stay in South Korea any longer, said a commentary published by the official newspaper Rodong Sinmun.

The withdrawal of US troops from South Korea would be definitely followed by the process of disarmament between the two sides on the peninsula, it pointed out.

By raising the "issue of the DPRK forces reduction" as a pre-condition for the resumption of the talks between the DPRK and the United States, the United States seeks to complicate bilateral relations and while away time with that as a pretext and thus keeps its troops in South Korea for an indefinite period and keeps the Korean Peninsula in a state of military confrontation, said the article.

Its ulterior aim is to completely disarm the DPRK in a bid to create a military vacuum on its front and rear and seize it anytime with ease, it said.

It is preposterous for the United States to assert that it keeps its troops in South Korea to cope with "possible DPRK military provocation," the commentary added.
