165 Satellite Education Centers Taken Roots from "Sparkling Action"The "Sparkling Action" since launched in 1998, has established 165 satellite education centers and ground stations in poverty-ridden areas of 30 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities nationwide, according to Ou Mancai, joint chairman of China Development & Services Fund, Hong Kong.Ou paid two visits to Shaoguan City, north of Guangdong in mid and late May for a benefit performance to be staged for aiding the poor students to study. Co-sponsored by the said Fund, China Charity Federation (CCF) and China Educational Television (CETV), the "Sparkling Action" is aiming at "let poor children see the outside world and let first-class TV education benefit the children in countryside." It is to improve and develop primary education in China's countryside and foster more talents for the nation. Efforts have been made by the "Sparkling Action" to set up satellite education centers in economically backward regions to directly bring TV education program to children, and it has also provided multi-media teaching facilities and developed software for schools. Talking about the new actions in the new century, Ou says more advanced equipment as computers, overhead projectors, language labs and Internet surfing facilities would be installed, turning them into bases for transmitting hi-tech information and further benefit schools in their surrounding areas.
