Convention to Push Overseas Co-operation

The Sixth World Chinese Entrepreneurs' Convention will be a wonderful occasion to promote information exchanges and economic co-operation among overseas and Chinese mainland business people, said Luo Zhijun£¬ head of the preparatory committee for the convention.

With the principle of "promoting economic development and mutual prosperity" set at the inaugural meeting in Singapore in 1991, the World Chinese Entrepreneurs' Convention aims to provide a platform for all participants to learn from each other in an effort to further spread Chinese culture and to demonstrate world Chinese entrepreneurs' role and contribution to the social and economic progress of their countries.

Top Chinese leaders, including Premier Zhu Rongji and several economic ministers, are expected to deliver speeches on China's latest policies at the convention, which will be held in Nanjing in the middle of September, sources with the organizing committee said.

Overseas Chinese entrepreneurs throughout the world have always been concerned about the social and economic development of the Chinese mainland and helped China's prosperity in various ways, of which capital and technical investment is the most common form.

Ever since China opened up to the outside world, large numbers of overseas Chinese entrepreneurs have invested in all kinds of industries across the country, especially in coastal areas. This has greatly accelerated the development of different industries, in particular small- and medium-sized township and village enterprises.

The convention will furnish overseas Chinese entrepreneurs with the space and time to learn more about the latest developments in China, and hopefully give them more confidence in future business expansion on the Chinese mainland, said Luo, the vice-mayor of Nanjing.

"We should make full use of the convention to let the world know more about Nanjing's economic potential and to establish closer contact with overseas Chinese entrepreneurs to upgrade the city's industrial structure and strengthen its economic power," said Luo. During the three-day event, a series of seminars, exhibitions and meetings will be held to offer opportunities for participants to discuss matters of investment and co-operation.
