Eight Missing in Landslide in SW China

Eight people were reported missing in a landslide that occurred at small hours Sunday in Goujia Township of southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The disaster happened at around 1 a.m. at a place called Dongdongyan, some 40 kilometers away from Chongzhou City. Local sources said five villagers living at the foot of the mountain were engulfed, along with a nearby shop owner and a truck that passed the site with two people aboard.

Rescue workers have rushed to the site to search for the victims and nearly residents have moved to safe places.

By press time, rescue work is going on.

A heavy rain on Saturday night was blamed for the landslide, and there still is possibility of another landslide, the sources said.
