Somali Govt. Troops in Fighting With Warlord Militias

The Somali interim government forces Sunday launched a counter-attack on militias of a warlord in Wanwelyn district, 90 kilometers west of Mogadishu, after heavy fighting flared up between the two sides on Saturday night.

The government forces claimed to have killed 11 rebel fighters from the Rahanwein Resistance Army (RRA) during the fighting this morning, while the clash last night left at least five people dead and more than three others injured, including a civilian.

Information Minister of the transitional government Zakaria Mohamud Hajji Abdi accused the Ethiopian military officials in Baidoa town masterminded the attack launched by the RRA Saturday night.

This is reportedly the first time that the government admitted to have been involved in a real fighting against its country's warlords militias.
