Beijing University to Enroll 3,100 Students

Beijing University will enroll 3,100 undergraduates this year, announced a university official Saturday.

Chu Yuguo, an official in charge of the enrollment work, said Beijing University will create a more favorable environment for its applicants.

"All we want is to enroll the best students in the country," said Chu, when asked whether Beijing University will increase its tuition this year like some other universities have done.

He said that financially strapped college students are able to complete their studies without worrying about money, because Beijing University has already started a program to help poor students, which includes loans, fellowships and sponsorships.

Beijing University was ranked as the best university in China by the U.S. based "Science" magazine. The Ministry of Science and Technology announced last year that Beijing University is ranked first on the list of the top five Chinese universities in scientific research.
