Thailand, China to Launch "Twin Schools" Plan: OfficialThailand and China will jointly initiate a "Twin Schools" program to strengthen bilateral exchanges in knowledge and culture, a Thai senior official announced in Bangkok Saturday.Director-General of Department of General Education Kasama Varawan was quoted by the Thai News Agency as saying that the plan, which is expected to be enacted later this year, came after Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji's recent visit to Thailand between May 19 and 22. Under the project, Thai secondary schools will pair off with their respective Chinese counterparts, so schools from both countries will have the opportunity to learn each other's culture, knowledge and experiences, said the official. She said so far five Thai public schools which teach Chinese language have expressed their interest to join the program. However, the official noted schools without Chinese language class can also participate in the project as it is a "widely open" program.
