Police From Chinese Mainland, Hong Kong Discuss Cooperation

Police officers from the Chinese mainland and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) agreed on Friday that more cooperation is expected on the basis of the Basic Law of the SAR and the principle of "one country, two systems."

Zhu Entao, assistant minister of Public Security, and Tsang Yam- pui, commissioner of the Police Force of the Hong Kong SAR Government, held warm, friendly and practical talks during the three-day working meeting, which ended on Friday.

Reviewing their cooperation since the last meeting at the end of 2000, police officers from the two areas agreed that they have achieved constructive accomplishment in cracking down on various crimes, maintaining social stability and protecting people's life and property safety.

They also discussed specific issues concerning cracking down on crimes, border management, education and training and other forms of police cooperation.

Minister of Public Security Jia Chunwang, Vice Ministers of Public Security Tian Qiyu and Zhao Yongji respectively met with the HK police delegation during the three-day meeting.

It was the seventh such meeting since Hong Kong's return to China in 1997.
