Chinese, French Foreign Ministers Discuss Bilateral Ties

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan said he believes that Sino-French ties will develop further in all fields under joint efforts from the two sides.

Tang made the remark on Friday while having a dinner with French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine.

Tang said that Sino-French relations are developing smoothly and Chinese Vice Premier Li Lanqing's successful visit to France last month further promoted the cooperation between the two countries in all aspects, especially in culture, technology and education.

China and France are two cultural giants in the East and the West respectively, and they signed a document on setting up cultural centers in each other's country not long ago, which is of much significance for bilateral cultural exchanges, noted Tang.

Vedrine said that the France-China relationship has been consolidated day by day over the past few years. Also, bilateral exchanges have been on the rise and negotiations and dialogues between the two sides have been fruitful.

France is willing to strengthen bilateral relations and promote bilateral cooperation in various fields.

They also exchanged views on issues of common concern.
