Japan Takes Three, China Wins One Gold in Athletics Finals
Japan
took three gold medals and China took one in the morning's session of track and field competitions at the 3rd East Asian Games Saturday in Osaka.
The Japanese runners dominated the men's and women's half marathon races as Kazuo Ietani took the men's title in a time of one hour 4 minutes and 49 seconds.
The Japanese female runners finished one-two through Mizuki Noguchi and Takako Kotorida. Noguchi was timed at 1:11:18 while Kotorida clocked 1:13:31.
Japan also won the men's 200m final as Shingo Suetsugu broke the games record in a time of 20.34 seconds. The silver medal went to Gennadiy Chernovol of
Kazakhstan
at 20.55 and Tsai Meng- Lin of Chinese Taipei took the bronze medal at 20.92.
The women's 200m race was won by Chinese Liu Xiaomei who was timed at 22.87 to break her own games record. Liu's compatriot Yan Jiankui was second at 23.39, followed by Motoka Arai of Japan in the third place at 23.69.
