Hong Kong Business Circle Eyes Western China Market

"Hong Kong should take the lead among international investors in exploring the abundant commercial opportunities generated in western China's market," a senior Hong Kong official said Friday.

Donald Tsang, administrative secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) made the remark while visiting the Hong Kong Expo, a key part of the West China Economic and Trade Fair that opened in this capital of southwest China's Sichuan Province Friday.

Tsang, who is leading a delegation from Hong Kong to explore business opportunities in the western regions and learn more about the central government's western development strategy, also expressed his willingness to have Hong Kong business circles participate in western China's projects and help local enterprises integrate into the world market.

The four-day fair was jointly organized by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT), Sichuan Provincial Government and Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

Major activities at the fair include a product exhibition, commodity trading, investment meetings and seminars on the WTO issue, which have attracted over 1,300 investors from 26 countries and regions, including the United States, France and Australia.
