Beida Launches Forum on Financial Law

The first meeting of the Beijing University (Beida) Forum on Financial Law was officially opened Saturday in Beijing, with over 100 experts and scholars from the financial, legal, academic circles and government officials attending.

Director of the Beida Financial Law Research Center (BFLRC) Wu Zhipan said that, with the main theme of "WT0-financial competition-legal readjustment", the forum will discuss the problems and challenges arising in the process of China's reform on financial laws.

Major topics of the forum include China's financial supervision after the entry into the WTO, increasing the competitiveness of Chinese financial institutions in overseas markets, the conversion of commercial banks' assets into securities, the improvement of personnel quality in financial institutions and management system reform, overlapping business between banking and securities sectors, and the coordination of financial judicature with financial system reform.

The forum, sponsored by the BFLRC, aims to promote academic exchange and link up relation and cooperation with the financial industry, so as to move forward academic studies in financial laws and promote the development of China's financial laws and system.

He said that the forum will be made an annual event for financial administrative officials, senior financial managers, judges for financial cases, financial lawyers and financial law experts to exchange ideas and discuss related issues.
