Macao's Unemployment Rate Remains Stable

Macao's unemployment rate stood at 6.3 percent from February to April, keeping the same level of the January-March period, according to the latest official statistics.

Figures released by the Statistics and Census Services show that the February-April jobless rate was slightly down by 0.7 percentage points from that of the same 2000 period.

The labor force reached an estimated 218,000 people in the three-month period, constituting about half of Macao's population.

Of the figure, the employed population stood at 204,000, while 14,000 people were still reportedly jobless, statistics show.

The sectors reporting more employees include construction, hotel and domestic service, while the unemployment situation became even worse in wholesale and retail sales, the source said.

The construction and manufacturing industries are still lack of employees in Macao.
