Sex Products Shops Banned from City's Downtown

Shops that specialize in selling sex products will no longer be able to be located on downtown blocks and in the vicinity of schools and scenic spots in this resort capital of the eastern province of Zhejiang.

The city currently has nearly 300 such shops and 400 drug stores and department stores which sell sex products. Most of them are operating in downtown districts.

In a surprise inspection by the city's drug administration, many shops were found to be operating illegally, selling fake products and burgeoning prices for staggering profits.

Exaggerated advertising was used to promote sales of sex appliances and conception control devices, which were on display in showcases in some shops, sources said.

To check the illegal running shops and polish the appearance of the city as a famous tourist destination, the city authorities issued regulations to ban shops in the above mentioned places.
