China-Malaysia Cooperation Condusive to Peace: Defense Minister

Sino-Malaysian friendship and cooperation will contribute to peace and development£¬ Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian said here Friday during a meeting with visiting Secretary General Dato'Hashim bin Meon of the Malaysian Defense Ministry.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to developing all-round cooperation with Malaysia £¬ Chi said.

"We are happy to see that with the rapid growth of bilateral ties £¬ our two militaries have enhanced exchanges£¬" he added.

He expressed belief that Hashim's visit to China will help increase exchanges and cooperation between the two sides £¬ which in turn£¬ will be conducive to peace and development in the Asia- Pacific and the world at large.

Chi spoke highly of Malaysia's active role in the ASEAN £¨Association of Southeast Asian Nations£© and the Asia-Pacific region£¬ and thanked the Malaysian government for its support to China on the Taiwan question£¬ the human rights issue and the decision of the Chinese government to crack down on the evil cult of Falun Gong.

Hashim voiced satisfaction at the extensive contacts and friendly cooperation between his country and China £¬ saying the Malaysian government is ready to bring bilateral cooperation to a new high.
