CPPCC Chairman Meets Venezuelan President

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met Friday with visiting Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

Li said the Venezuelan people have made much progress in their political, economic and social reforms and in dealing with foreign affairs under the leadership of Chavez.

He said that China appreciates Venezuela's contributions to world peace and development.

Li briefed the guest on the achievements China has made in its reforms and opening-up drive.

He stressed that the Chinese government has always paid much attention to the interests of the people and to the improvement of their living standards.

Chavez said he believes his current visit and his talks and meetings with the Chinese leaders will surely strengthen the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Praising China's economic achievements, Chavez also briefed the Chinese side on Venezuela's domestic situation.

Chavez emphasized that Venezuela and China should always learn from each other and support each other.
