Chinese Railway to Offer Price Discount

News from the Kunming Railway Bureau shows that it would carry out conditioned preferential policies for ticket price since May 21, namely, the vacant sleepers in the train after 6:00 AM on the last day of the journey can be sold at a discount of 30 to 40 percent.

Wang Defang, secretary general of China Railway Academy told reporter that this is a measure taken by the railway department to cope with the changes in the market when it is to enter the market. Since quite a few people may get off from a long-distance train, there might be some vacant sleepers before the train arrives at its terminal station. As the price doesn't match with the distance should there be no discount, and passengers will feel very tired at the last few hours of the journey yet sleepers are left unoccupied.

As reported the railway department is considering of putting the sectional passenger transportation into the market completely. So far, the railway bureaus of Hohhot, Nanchang, Liuzhou and Kunming have established companies for passenger transportation as experimental units of this trade. When all the railway bureaus have such companies in future, Chinese people will see trains of different companies running on the same track and competing with one another for development.

Insiders pointed out that the establishment of companies along the railways is favorable for the separated operation of railroads, stations and trains, for the breakup of trade monopoly, for the raising of service quality and finally for the maximized benefits of customers.
