Domestic Brands Enjoy Lion's Share of Chinese Air-conditioner MarketThe latest statistics show that domestic brands are holding a lion's share of the Chinese air-conditioner market while foreign brands have seen a re-surge,Through absorbing advanced foreign technology, Chinese brand-name household electrical appliances have, by relying on their comparative edge of performance and prices, more or less fully occupied the domestic market. However, the enterprises of Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United States and Sweden in this field, after two-three years of recession, have started to revive in the Chinese market through establishing joint ventures and changing their marketing strategy in China. This tendency is particularly obvious in the air-conditioner market. According to the sales statistics compiled by the All-China Commercial Information Center from around 200 large retail markets, nearly 60,000 air-conditioners were sold last February, a growth of 110 percent over the same period last year. Haier holds the leading position with its 28.2 percent of the market share. The 2000 placing shows that domestic name brands like Haier, Midea, Chunlan, Gree and Kelong rank at the top, with a total market share of nearly 67 percent. Four foreign brands are listed in the top 10, namely Mitsubishi, Hitachi, Sharp and National, which share 18 percent of the market in total, representing an upturn of 5 percentage points.
