History Substantiates Party's Nationalities Policy: Article

The 50-year history since the peaceful liberation of Tibet proves that without the Communist Party of China (CPC), there would be no socialist new Tibet and only socialism can save and develop Tibet, said Ngapoi Nagwang Jigme, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

In an article published in the People's Daily Thursday, Ngapoi recalled that on May 23, 1951, when the central government and local government of Tibet signed the agreement on the peaceful liberation of Tibet, he was the local government's chief delegate.

He said that the agreement marked a turning point for Tibet, enabling it to break away from the control of imperialism and laying a solid foundation for Tibet's progress and prosperity.

The past fifty years have taught people a lot, which will be helpful for the future, said Ngapoi.

Following the peaceful liberation, Tibet entered the best period in its history, during which the local economy and culture enjoyed the fastest development in its history, the article said.

A united country and solidarity of different ethnic groups are guarantees to the development and prosperity of Tibet, said Ngapoi.

History proves that only by adhering to the CPC leadership and the Socialist road can Tibet be guaranteed a bright future, he said in the article.

Facts have proved the correctness of the series of the Party's policies dealing with Tibetan matters in the fields of economy, politics, culture, religion, and ethnic relationships, said Ngapoi.

Tibet now has over 50,000 officials from ethnic minority groups, accounting for over 70 percent of all officials in the Tibet Autonomous Region, according to the article.

Ngapoi said that the 50-year history of Tibet is a history during which, people of all ethnic groups in Tibet, under the leadership of the central government, united as one and marched forward with an iron will, bravery and a pioneering spirit.

The 50-year history of Tibet fully shows that without the Communist Party of China, there would be no socialist new Tibet and only socialism can save and develop Tibet, he added.
