Ningxia University Leads Way in System ReformNingxia University has lately decided as the first in China to set on a course of system reform according to which a new three-semester system in an academic year is to be adopted starting from the schooling year of 2001-2002.Under the new system, a schooling year will fall into three academic terms, namely, spring, summer and fall, with the spring and fall terms lasting 17.5 weeks respectively (including holidays and sports meet) and the summer term only 7 weeks (including examinations). Wang Zhengying, director of teaching affairs office of the University told that the new system will help further deepen educational reforms, popularize credit system and optimize layout of schooling resources to place the University in good stead in face of new situations. Wang said the adoption of three semesters in an academic year would provide more leave for students to take optional courses by increasing selection choices from 8 to 11 in four years of undergraduate study.
