Picasso's Prints Exhibited in Macao

A total of 161 pieces of Picasso's prints started to be exhibited Thursday at the Macao Museum of Art.

The exhibition is a gathering of four of Picasso's most renowned series -- Story of Nature, Carmen, the Bull Flight and Celestine.

These works are first shown in Asia. Sponsors described the exhibition as "a rare thing" as the series of prints are kept by many private collectors in Europe.

During the three-month exhibition, Macao people will have the opportunity to know more about the master from lectures on his works and a documentary film introducing his lifetime career.

Picasso, the Spanish painter, sculptor and engraver, was the creator of Cubism and one of the most influential artists of the 20th century.

The event is jointly sponsored by the Provisional Municipal Council of Macao, the Consulate-General of France in Hong Kong, the Museum of Lodeve in France, the Macao Foundation for Cooperation and Development and the Alliance Francaise of Macao.

Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, attended Thursday's inauguration ceremony.
