Pak to Respond to India's Talks Offer "in Positive Spirit:" FM

The Pakistani government Thursday said that it would respond "in a positive spirit" to the Indian Prime Minister's invitation to Pakistani Chief Executive Pervez Musharraf for talks in India.

Speaking at a press conference here in the Foreign Office, Pakistani Foreign Minister Adbul Sattar said the summit meeting would provide an opportunity for dialogue "aimed at a permanent settlement of the long-standing Kashmir problem" and "remove the root-cause of tensions that has blighted Pakistan-India relations since 1947."

He said with that objective in view Pakistan consistently called for resumption of the dialogue and offered to participate in it at any level, including the highest.

However, the Pakistani government has not yet received any official communication from the Indian side, added Sattar.

He also referred to the proposal put forward by Pakistan last December for consultations with the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), "the true representatives of the Kashmiri freedom struggle" as he described, stressing that "for meaningful talks on a settlement responsive to the will of the Kashmiri people, the APHC delegation should be allowed to visit Islamabad In regard to India's announcement of an end to "the so-called cease fire" in Kashmir, Sattar pointed out that it would "shock all those who had welcomed the suspension of military operations."
