Ethiopia Accuses Eritrea of Lacking Sincerity to Peace Accord

Ethiopian Foreign Minister Seyoum Mesfin has accused Eritrea of lacking sincerity to the peace agreement signed last year in Algiers by deploying its army in the Temporary Security Zone (TSZ).

Although Eritrea professed that it has accepted the provisions of the accord provided for the establishment of the TSZ, it has left no stone unturned to thwart its implementation, Seyoum was quoted as saying by the Ethiopian News Agency on Thursday.

The foreign minister described Eritrea's move as 'deplorable', saying that Ethiopia has made it clear that the Eritrean militia and police force should maintain their pre-war composition.

Meanwhile, an Ethiopian military official disclosed that Eritrea was infiltrating an ordinary combatant army in the TSZ under the guise of a militia force.

In a related development, senior military officials from Ethiopia and Eritrea have reached agreement on a number of measures after holding a meeting in Nairobi, capital of Kenya to pursue the path of peace.

The Nairobi meeting was chaired by UNMEE Force Commander Major-General Patrick Cammaert, who updated the parties on the mission's progress in establishing the northern and southern boundaries of the TSZ.
