Chinese Premier Meets HK Business DelegationThe 129-member delegation is visiting the interior to explore business opportunities in the western regions and learn more about the central government's western development strategy. Premier Zhu extended welcome to the delegation and said he appreciates the Hong Kong SAR government's support of the western development strategy. "The implementation of the strategy has created numerous opportunities in the central and western regions which account for two-thirds of the country's land territory," said the premier. This has also offered a big opportunity for far-sighted Hong Kong businessmen and professionals to strut their talents, he said. Zhu noted that the western regions are increasing their investment in infrastructure facilities and doing their best to improve local biological and investment environment. He expressed the belief that the trip to the west will enhance the delegation's knowledge and understanding of the motherland and bring actual gains in market development and business expansion. The premier made clear his wish that the Hong Kong business sector will play a big role in developing the western regions and promoting the mutual development of the Hong Kong and the interior economies. During the meeting, Zhu briefed the delegation on the economic development of the interior. Tsang told the premier that the central government's western development strategy represents a big chance for Hong Kong that is undergoing a new round of economic restructuring. The SAR government has organized the Hong Kong business elite for the trip so that Hong Kong will not lose the chance to sharpen enhance its competitive edge, Tsang said. The Hong Kong delegation arrived in Beijing Tuesday after visiting Shaanxi provincial capital Xi'an. It is scheduled to visit Chengdu and Urumqi the weekend.
