Chinese Children Need Day of Indulgence: ExpertChildren's Day on June 1 is a great day for kids and they should be indulged in happiness, imagination and creation, said Sun Yunxiao, director of the China Juvenile Research Center. The researcher said that education should follow the principle of respecting children, so the festival should be designed for kids to have fun. Teachers used to hold big ceremonies inviting big names to celebrate the day for children. "But in fact, kids do not enjoy that," said Sun Yunxiao, "It would be sad for kids to only have those events at their own festival." He noted that celebrating the festival as an indulgence day for children will benefit their healthy growth. Sun suggested that varied celebration activities instead of one option should be offered for children to choose as they wish. Zhang Han, a third-grade schoolgirl at Beijing Shoushuihe Primary School, is now looking-forward to her own festival as are her peers. Every Children's Day she has spent at school consisted of nothing more than staging a performance or going to parks. "I would choose an activity that I haven't done before if I had the choice," said the eight-year-old girl.
