Cathay Pacific Seeks Closer Ties with Chinese Airlines

Hong Kong's flagcarrier Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. wants closer ties with China's largest airlines so it can cash in on the country's rapid industrial growth, it was reported Thursday.

A director of Cathay Pacific, Raymond Yuen, was cited by the South China Morning Post as saying that such an alliance would also help the regional airlines become more competitive with links in outbound traffic.

He said closer cooperation could take the form of code sharing and joint selling of air tickets, partnership in cargo operations, pilot training and other back-up services.

Yuen said the huge demand in China's aviation industry had prompted the need for more co-operation with mainland companies.
