China's Third Largest Auto Fair to be Staged

The Fourth Chengdu International Auto Exhibition will be staged between October 17 and 21 in Chengdu, this capital of the southwest province of Sichuan, the city's deputy mayor announced Wednesday.

The deputy mayor said the exhibition will host a wide variety of prestigious auto makers from home and abroad, including GM, Volvo, BMW, Chrysler, Toyota and Ford. He expects participation of more than 100 car companies and dealers, with half being car manufacturers.

The exhibition, with a display area over 30,000 square meters and an expected trading volume of 200 million yuan (24 million US dollars), will be the third largest auto show in the country after those in Beijing and Shanghai, according to the deputy mayor.

The exhibition held last year attracted 150,000 visitors and recorded more than 100 million yuan (12 million US dollars) in sales.

Statistics show that auto sales are increasing at an annual rate of 25 percent in west China, and individual purchases make up 70 percent of the total sales. Chengdu ranks second in the country in terms of number of private cars, behind Beijing, the Chinese capital.
