27 Senior Musicians Specially Cited

When some 20 senior musicians were helped onto the stage of "Golden Bell" prize giving ceremony to take their 24-k pure gold medals, Wu Yanze, one of the prize winners, famous Chinese singer said excitedly "This is a real music history".

The ceremony, the first of its kind, was held on May 19 in Langfang, Hebei Province.

Co-sponsored by China Federation of Literary and Art Circles and Chinese Musicians Association, Golden Bell is China's only comprehensive prize awarding distinguished musicians in musical field. The prize was given in three categories of awards, ie, "lifelong honorary medal", "excellent music compositions" and medals for "winning out in new-period singing contests".

The lifelong honorary musician medal was the highlight of the ceremony. After strict selection and vote taking by the prize appraisal committee, Wang Shen, Lu Ji, Li Delun, Zhou Xiaoyan and others were awarded for their great contributions in music creation, performance, teaching and musicology, all at an age over 80, with a career life of over 60 years.

The prize also set up an excellent music work award, rewarding outstanding vocal and instrumental music works.

Five songs including "Qinghai-Tibet Plateau" and "Spring's Story" along with nine music pieces including "The Long Great Wall" and a two dozen of music works like "The Paradise" and "A True Story" were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals, respectively.
