Iran Hangs US Spy

Iran announced Tuesday that it had hanged an Iranian man who spied for the US, according to local sources.

The spy was hanged Sunday at Evin prison, the main penitentiary in the Iranian capital, state radio said.

He colloborated with American intelligence services, to which he gave confidential information, the radio added.

According to a statement, the man had fled the country in 1985 in the midst of the Iran-Iraq war and took refuge in the US.

He was arrested at Tehran's airport in 1996 and was carrying a false passport, said the statement.
