"Family Ma" Runner Li Jingnan Wins Women's 1,500m

Chinese runner Li Jingnan, a newly-recruited member of "Family Ma", won the women's 1,500m race in the East Asian Games on Tuesday.

Li, who had trained in Guangdong province before she joined coach Ma Junren's team, ran four minutes 12.13 seconds in a five- runner field.

Lan Lixin, another member of the famous "Family Ma" long- distance running team, finished a disappointed third in 4:16.09 behind Japan's Ikuko Tamura, 4:16.09.

Australian Elizabeth Walsham had the second fastest time of the race in 4:15.58.

"I came here to win the gold. The victory is not a surprise," Li said.

Lan, whose best time is within 3:53.00, said a tough schedule exhausted her. "My aim of the year is to win in the 9th National Games in October," Lan said.
