Audi to expand production in China

Audi AG, the luxury arm of German automaker Volkswagen AG, has announced it will extend all product lines in China in the near future to bolster its leadership of the premium car market.

Kevin McCann, head of Audi's China operation, said the move was based on demand for luxury cars and increasing competition in China.

"We will fine-tune our strategy according to customer demand and our rivals' activities in China," McCann said.

Other luxury car makers, including Volvo, BMW and Mercedes- Benz, are striving to introduce more models or are looking for manufacturing opportunities in China.

McCann said that at the moment Audi had no specific plan to manufacture other models in China except the Audi A6 produced by Changchun-based FAW (First Automotive Works) Volkswagen.

He made the remarks on Saturday during the official launch ceremony for the Audi A8 - the company's top model - in Beijing.
