Northeast China's Enterprises Urged to Eliminate PollutionChina's northeast Liaoning Province, known as the base for industrial products, is determined to curb pollution caused by industrial development.More than 60 percent of polluting enterprises will eliminate pollution within five years, said Du Qiugen, head official with the Liaoning Environment Protection Administration. The administration will carry out tentative clean production in the leading industrial cities of Shenyang, Fushun and Benxi, said the official. The provincial government is ready to impose rigorous environmental protection policies, according to which any incompetent and dingy plants will be closed down and phased out. Government departments will still help the enterprises with technological innovation, emissions control, and detoxification facilities. Liaoning, a leading industrial powerhouse in the country, is heavily polluted with pollutants mainly coming from industrial plant emissions.
