Douglas Brodrick, an official of the World Food Program (WFP), recently visited the site of a WFP- assisted rural development project in the western part of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Between May 14-21, a WFP team, led by the official, inspected Nandan and Huanjiang counties, two of the 10 poverty-stricken counties in Guangxi that plan to use 30.4 million US dollars loans from the International Fund of Agricultural development (IFAD) and 11.2 million US dollars worth of grain from the WFP.
According to the plan, 74 townships in the 10 counties, involving 260,000 rural families and 1.23 million people, will carry out a series of projects in the fields of water conservancy, road construction, farming, animal husbandry, rural education and health, women's development.
In February, the IFAD signed an agreement with China on the project, which is expected to be launched after the WFP completes the inspection and signs an agreement with the Chinese government.
