DPRK Party Official Meets Chinese Women Delegation

A high-ranking official of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) met a Chinese women's delegation Monday, saying the DPRK people are firm on socialism despite difficulties.

Choe Tae Bok, an alternate member of the Politburo and a secretary of the Secretariat of the ruling Workers Party, warmly welcomed the Chinese visitors.

Choe said the DPRK is building socialism against the background of harsh confrontation with imperialism. The DPRK encountered difficulties in its economic construction in the past few years. However, he said, the DPRK people, who have firm confidence in socialism, are overcoming difficulties and making efforts to build a strong country.

He said the DPRK is happy with China's economic achievements.

DPRK-China relations are developing smoothly with the care of leaders of both countries, Choe said. DPRK top leader Kim Jong Il is steadfast in developing DPRK-China friendship, which will stand the test of changes of the international situation, he said.

The Chinese delegation headed by Basang, vice chairwoman of the All-China Women's Federation and vice party chief of the Tibet Autonomous Region, arrived in Pyongyang on Tuesday for a week-long goodwill visit.
